Exclusive Event Coverage by K.Vivekshankar

Can a professional stage actor who always ensured that even the last bencher heard him properly go speechless?

It happened at youth hostel, Adyar where Hamsadhwani has honoured veteran stage actor, Mr. M.G. Murugan with Hamsadhwani R. Ramachandran Award, carrying a citation, a memento and cash prize of Rs.10,000/- on the concluding day of  a week long drama festival dedicated to Raadhu.

Mr. M.G. Murugan who has acted on stage for more than half a century and had over 5000 stage appearances went emotional and speechless upon receiving the honour amidst thunderous applause from everyone present at the festival.  He has even excused himself from delivering his acceptance speech.

“I am here not to felicitate the legendary drama actor M.G. Murugan, but to take his blessings”  was the humble declaration made by Chief Guest,  Director Venkat when he presented the Award to him.  He opined that  the commitment and involvement of professional artistes like Mr. M.G. Murugan  brought them laurels.  Director Venkat also commended the efforts of Hamsadhwani in identifying such  extraordinary talents from theatre and honouring them every year.

Earlier, Mr. Sundar, secretary of Hamsadhwani has showered praise on Mr. M.G. Murugan for his sterling performances for various troupes in tamil mainstream theatre. He has also recalled the successful efforts of  Director Venkat  in all the three spheres, stage, television and cinema.

While Mr. Koothapiran felicitated  Mr. M.G. Murugan, he also pointed out that he is equally an  ardent theatre lover and spent much time in witnessing others plays.

After the function, Dummies Drama’s “ATHITHI” by Srivathson was staged for the packed audience.
