Sangeeth Natak Akademi for A.R. Srinivasan (ARS)
S. R. ASHOK KUMAR
It was fitting that he received an award from Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, for his contribution to theatre and films. After all, A.R. Srinivasan, fondly known as ARS in the industry, has been involved in theatre for 47 years, has directed 17 plays and has nearly 90 films to his credit.
Artistes such as S.V. Sahasranamam and Poornam Viswanthan from Tamil Nadu have bagged the award.
Says a delighted ARS: “I’m glad to have received it after such stalwarts from the industry. I’m thankful to some of the best talents in the stage and cinema who guided me all along — including YGP and Sivaji Ganesan who introduced me to acting. I learnt a lot from them, and I’m happy I did the roles on stage that Sivaji Ganesan reprised in films — ‘Kannan Vandan’, the stage version of ‘Gouravam’, and ‘Mezhugu Bommaigal’ that was made into ‘Pilot Premnath’.
